Jewelcrafting, as a new profession, was introduced with the Burning Crusade expansion. Since then it is
considered to be one of the most popular professions in WoW. The reason for its popularity is a wide range of
useful gems and items one can make as a professional Jewelcrafter.
Jewelcrafting offers the ability to craft unique gems that only a Jewelcrafter himself can equip. These
gems come as a nice boost to any spec in the game. For example, if you are a Warlock, your dps will
definitely be boosted with special spell power gems. Same goes for any other class you might belong
to.
How does it work?
To
become a successful Jewelcrafter you need to mine and prospect. There are two ways of levelling Jewelcrafting
– together with Mining or by buying ores on the Auction House and prospecting. The second option is obviously
more expensive one but less time taking. The choice is yours.
As
soon as you take Jewelcrafting as one of your primary professions you will get Prospecting skill to accompany
it. With this skill you are able to prospect five ores and extract valuable or less valuable
gems.
Every
high level Jewelcrafter can make an Icy Prism with around 20 hours cooldown. From each Icy Prism he has a
chance of extracting valuable gems even epic gems which are worth quite a bit if sold on the AH. In order to
make an Icy Prism you will need one frozen orb and various less valuable gems.
Apart
from being able to make valuable gems, a Jewelcrafter can craft rings, necklaces and trinkets. He can even
sell some epic rings and necklaces to other players for a nice amount of gold since these items are
considered to be really good when it comes to stats.
Other
useful things a Jewelcrafter can make are the stone statues. Once activated a small stone guardian will
appear and will heal you for a certain amount of time. This comes particularly useful on lower levels while
levelling or when in trouble.
Is Jewelcrafting
profitable?
The
answer is – Jewelcrafting is definitely profitable! As soon as you reach the Outlands most of the pieces of
better gear have one or more sockets available. This socket fits blue, red or yellow gems. You can also fit a
green gem in a blue or yellow socket, a purple gem in red or blue socket and an orange gem in red or yellow
socket.
As
soon as you hit level 80 and start doing heroics or raiding you will be able to obtain epic gear which has
better stats. Of course, a good piece of gear will require the best gems to fit in sockets, and this is where
a good Jewelcrafter fits in. He will be able to profit greatly just by selling gems or by cutting gems for
other players.
To
obtain new recipes you can do special Jewelcrafting daily quests. These daily quests are offered by Timothy
Jones found in Dalaran. These daily quests grant special tokens to Jewelcrafters and are used to purchase
recipes for high-level Jewelcrafting.
If
you choose Jewelcrafting as your primary profession, be assured that you will have fun while levelling it and
that you will also have a good use and profit from it on the higher levels.
